An Instagram scheduler that knows media is mandatory
Instagram is the network most likely to break a cross-post, because it rejects anything without an image or video. That gets caught here before your queue does.
Three Instagram rules that trip up every scheduler
Media is not optional
Instagram rejects a post with no image or video, full stop. Pre-flight flags an Instagram target with no media before the post enters the queue, rather than letting the fan-out drop it silently at publish time.
Video publishes as a Reel
Up to roughly 15 minutes. Vertical framing is what the surface rewards, and the same clip cross-posted to Bluesky hits a 60-second wall — reported to you before you commit.
Links in captions do nothing
Instagram does not make caption links clickable. Write the caption for the caption’s job, and put the link where it works — a different network, or your bio.
A personal Instagram account cannot be published to by any third-party tool — that is a platform restriction, not a PostMCP one. Convert to Business or Creator first.
Instagram and Threads are one action
Threads publishes as the linked Instagram identity — so the Reel and a 500-character conversational version go out together, each tracked separately.
Instagram scheduling FAQ
Can you schedule Instagram posts in advance?+
Yes. Connect an Instagram Business or Creator account, write the caption, attach a public image or video URL, and pick a date, time and timezone. The post waits on the calendar — editable, movable, cancellable — until its slot.
Can I schedule Reels?+
Yes. Video attached to an Instagram post publishes as a Reel, up to roughly 15 minutes. Attach a public video URL and the engine handles the upload at publish time.
Why does my Instagram post fail without an image?+
Because Instagram genuinely will not accept one. It is the only network besides YouTube that requires media on every post. PostMCP’s pre-flight reports this before the post is queued, which matters most in a cross-post where five other networks would have been fine with text.
Do I need a Business or Creator account?+
Yes. Instagram’s publishing API is only available to Business and Creator accounts linked to a Facebook Page. A personal account cannot be published to by any third-party tool, including this one.
Can I schedule Instagram and Threads together?+
Yes, and they pair naturally — Threads publishes as the linked Instagram identity. One action can send the Reel to Instagram and a 500-character conversational version to Threads, each tracked as its own delivery.
Can AI write the captions?+
Yes. The agent reads your brand kit and writes an Instagram-shaped caption — hook line, whitespace, platform-appropriate hashtags — rather than pasting your LinkedIn paragraph. It can also generate the image itself and attach it.
